Patitiri (the capital)

Patitiri is the capital and main port of the island of Alonissos, located in the Sporades archipelago. Don't imagine a big city, it is in fact a pretty village nestled in the southern part of the island, which was destroyed and rebuilt after the 1965 earthquake. Its name derives from the wine presses, used in the past since, once the the main occupation of the inhabitants of the island was viticulture.

Discover the village of Patitiri

It is a small hamlet of modern houses, with beautiful flowered balconies and colorful verandas. Here the atmosphere is relaxed and the buildings built on the slopes of the hill offer a unique scenario, in perfect harmony with the surrounding environment.

Over the years, thanks to the development of tourist infrastructure and the natural beauty of the area, Patitiri has become one of the favorite holiday resorts on the island of Alonnisos. The narrow whitewashed streets give Patitiri a special atmosphere, its small port, surrounded by incredibly crystalline emerald waters, is ideal for an evening stroll.

What Patitiri offers

The entire village is surrounded by a thick pine forest, while on the promenade besides the port, there is a small sandy beach, where despite the proximity to the port the water is spotless. A short distance away you will find the beautiful Roussoum Gialos beach, with pebbles and a fabulous transparent sea.

The port is the center of Patitiri's activities, here is the coast guard, a small marina and in its vicinity you will find various car and scooter rentals.

A good variety of supermarkets, bakeries, taverns, small cafes and other shops are located in the two main streets that leave from the port. The inhabitants of Patitiri have managed to preserve the natural environment without renouncing tourism, offering a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere to visitors who appreciate and respect its beauty.

Here you can enjoy the best breakfast on the island, buy fresh bread and visit the most delicious pastry shops, as well as a couple of super-stocked shops. Boats for various excursions leave from the port of Patitiri.

The most recommended is certainly the excursion to the Alonissos Marine Park, during which you can admire many unspoiled landscapes and if you are lucky you can spot seals and dolphins.

If you want to deepen your knowledge of the precious and delicate ecosystem of the island of Alonnisos, we recommend you visit the well-kept information center of MOM, an environmental organization engaged in the study, research and protection of the Mediterranean monk seal, which is one of the species at greatest risk of extinction. The center is located on the Patitiri seafront and offers a wealth of information on seals and the marine environment. If you want to support this association, you can also buy a souvenir whose proceeds will finance the various MOM projects.

The Folklore Museum is dedicated to the traditions of the island and is another interesting point of interest in Patitiri. Here you will find ancient nautical maps, craftsman tools and a curious collection of pirate weapons. After visiting the museum, you can stop in the delightful café on the top floor and admire the picturesque view of the harbor.

In Patitiri there is no shortage of accommodation, you can choose from a dozen hotels and various guest houses. There is also a wide choice of apartments, studios and holiday homes.
