Megali Ammos Beach

We discover another splendid splendid beach of Alonissos, the beach of Megali Ammos. It is located on the west coast of the island, about 7 kilometers northwest of Patitiri. The seabed does not degrade gently, but after a few meters it becomes quite deep, so it is ideal for a nice refreshing swim and for snorkeling. The seabed is magnificent and hides many wonders to explore.

The services of Megali Ammos

A part of the beach is equipped with sun beds and umbrellas at a cost of 10 € per day for 2 sun beds and an umbrella, while the other part is free and left to its wild beauty. There are no taverns or bars, but if you want to eat or drink something you can ask Mr. Jannis, the owner of the few umbrellas, who always has some sandwiches and refreshing drinks with him.

How to get to Megali Ammos

Getting there might be a little challenging if you haven't rented a quad or small 4x4, but it's feasible with any car or scooter, obviously paying attention. You have to travel for about 15 minutes on a dirt road with holes and hairpin bends. Then you will have to leave your means of transport in one of the open spaces along the road and once you have found the path you will only have to walk 200 meters downhill and you will be there.

It will be a small adventure that will be amply rewarded by the show that will open before your eyes as soon as you see the colors of the sea ..

On the beach of Megali Ammos you could also make an unusual encounter: the monk seals in fact arrive on the beach during the day to rest and bask in the sun. If you are lucky, you can see more than one who will keep you company while you relax. But remember that these are wild animals and they may not like too much attention ..
