Avithos beach

Avithos beach is located on the south-west coast of the island of Kefalonia, 2 kilometers from the capital Argostoli and near the village of Svoronata. It has green hills all around, golden sand and clear and turquoise sea so clean that it has earned the "Blue Flag", everything extends within a wild scenery with which you will surely fall in love! The shallow bottom of its waters allows families with children to relax without too many worries, but still keep an eye on the little ones because the sea is not always very calm and strong currents could become dangerous for children.

What can I find and do in Avithos?

Here, despite its proximity to the airport and the capital, you will not find much crowd, indeed you will notice that on the beach of Avithos a splendid air of tranquility hovers.
Once you arrive you can enjoy the comforts that the bay offers: you could go to one of the two typical taverns to enjoy excellent fresh fish, rent the sunbeds and umbrellas that you need to spend a relaxing day and after the bath you can take a shower or change in the special changing rooms.

As an alternative to the taverns you can go to the beach bar to sip a drink and munch on a snack, or you could stop at the kiosk near the parking lot, where you can buy refreshing drinks. In short, if you want to be comfortable the beach of Avithos is excellent!

While you are enjoying the serenity and the view you can see something strange in the distance ... that is the islet of Dionisi; with the church of Panaghia Diotissi at the top, built on the remains of a temple dedicated to Jupiter, it offers a splendid panorama for all the bathers of the beach who are enchanted every time for the idyllic view! To admire it closely you could participate in the pilgrimage that takes place annually in honor of Santa Diotissa; also a way to get to know the culture and traditions of the island of Kefalonia more closely.

If you are looking for a freer area, far from umbrellas, equipment and people, if you head east you will notice that slowly the beach is depopulated and becomes devoid of any service. Here you can enjoy your well-deserved relaxation in close contact with nature.

If you feel like taking an exploratory tour, we recommend going to the picturesque village of Svoronata where you can sit in cafes or restaurants and admire the splendid architecture of the village, whose view together with the scent of flowers gives almost magical and heavenly sensations!

If you are lucky you can find turtle nests! These beautiful creatures love to come to Avithos beach to lay their eggs. Who knows maybe you could catch the day of birth and see these little creatures running towards the water slip away! But be careful because the nests are protected and fenced so you have to approach it carefully and pay close attention!

How to reach Avithos?

Avithos beach is easily accessible by car. Once you arrive you will notice the small parking available for you, if you cannot find a free place inside, don't worry, you can always leave your car along the road.


Get to know this pretty beach, but above all come to see the small turtle nests and admire the nature that allows the birth of new, small and magnificent marine creatures!
