Balos Lagoon

Balos Lagoon

Description

The Balos lagoon is located on the northwestern tip of Crete, on the Gramvoussa peninsula.

It is a beautiful beach with heavenly colors! The Caribbean sea and the very fine, slightly white and slightly pink sand blind the eyes of the beholder!

To get to this magical lagoon there are two ways: the first is to drive to Ierapetra, take the ferry and get off at the beach marina. The second is to use your car to the bay through 8 kilometers of dirt road. Obviously once you arrive at your destination you will find a parking space for your car, from which you will then have to walk along a mountain road (we recommend the use of shoes) and finally you will arrive in front of this jewel.

Walking along this road will allow you to admire the spectacular view from above, a mix of colors that seen from that height make the beach look like a painting!Whatever your choice, it's really worth it!

Certainly the return will not be the best since you have to retrace the road again ... but this time uphill! Do not worry! You can always "rent" a donkey that will help you a little in return!

Well after the effort you will need water and food and maybe even relax and enjoy the beach ... In fact, near the car park there is a small kiosk to eat something on the fly, while on the beach you will find a bar to cool off, bathrooms and a rental of sunbeds and umbrellas! (I have a limited number). All at very low prices!

The Balos lagoon is very popular so we recommend arriving early in the morning!

And finally, don't forget to watch the beautiful sunset! Unique!
