The beach of Elafonissi is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Crete and we are sure you will not miss it during your next vacation! This beach is located on the south-west coast and is a fabulous natural lagoon and a real enchanted place, where the fine white sand alternates at times in which it takes on a very particular pink shade (dream!).The pink and coral color, typical of the Elafonissi beach, is due to the presence of pink and red shells that undergo the pulverizing action of the water: a spectacle of a disarming beauty, created by nature! As soon as you arrive you will have the feeling of staying in one of the most sought after Caribbean destinations ... but there is a but! ... you will have to arrive early, very soon! Already at 10 am you will discover how many people had the same idea ... and lost the morning show, when there was only you and nature, it would be a real shame. To reach this show by car you will have about an hour and a half of road from Chania (about 75 km), including a last dirt road that should not discourage you, because the show at your arrival is assured!Upon your arrival, park your car in the large parking lot and set off in search of an umbrella to find shelter from the hot summer sun (€ 9 two sun loungers and an umbrella). The beach has an area equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and a couple of bars, and the rest is free.In front of you you will have an immense expanse of fine sand, a sea that never seems to become deep and very clear and warm water .. welcome to a true natural paradise! Also in front of you you will see a small island covered with dunes and reachable through a strip of sand of about 200 meters (where the tide had slightly risen ... you can walk in the water that is at most half a meter deep). And if you love snorkeling, you are in one of the most magical places in Crete! We give you a little advice: most of the tourists stop on the beach immediately after parking and this leads to this area being particularly crowded ... so ... if you are looking for a bit of relaxation ... get to the islet (you will not find them sunbeds and umbrellas) and you can continue to enjoy the show. The islet is a Natura 2000 area, a protected area both for the turtles that come here to reproduce, and for the flora where there are 110 species of plants, a dream for lovers of botany. Among these, Giglio di mare, L'Ammophila Arenaria and Juniper Coccolone are particularly important. And if you are a lover of the most hidden beaches ... go up to the beach of Kedrodàsos (20 minutes on foot, in an easterly direction) ... here only untouched nature, very few visitors and junipers that will inebriate you with their perfumes and under which you will find some shade and refreshment on the hottest days. It is a very popular destination for naturists. What else to say? Welcome to the Caribbean .. Greek!
