Gialos Beach

Description

The beach of Yialos, also known as Gialos, is located in is the central bay of the island, located in Chora, a short distance from the port of Ormos. It is in fact a very popular location in the summer months, but never as crowded as the famous Mylopotas, also due to its considerable size, which offers plenty of space for visitors.

A stop on the beach of Gialos is therefore practically obligatory, also because you will find it really convenient to reach it either on foot or by bus, without having to hire any vehicle. In itself the beach is very beautiful: fine golden sand that plunges into the crystal clear waters of the sea, practically a daydream!

The most beautiful part of this bay is visible from the port, from where it appears wonderfully surrounded by green cliffs where the characteristic white houses are perched.

Due to its proximity to the port, it is the destination of a great flow of tourists, so it is perfectly equipped to meet all its needs. Gialos is full of beach resorts that offer the possibility of renting not only sunbeds and deckchairs for a few euros, but also to try out fun water sports: water skiing, jet skis, windsurfing, diving and much more ...

Behind the beach there is also a long line of taverns and typical restaurants, which offer tourists a wide choice of typical Greek dishes, at rather competitive prices. There are even coffee shops and accommodation facilities: this is the most touristic area of the island of Ios!

Once you arrive in Gialos, you can also walk to the beautiful church of Agia Irini, perched at the highest point of the port. It is a wonderful whitewashed building, overlooking the sea, which enjoys an absolutely incredible charm. It is the perfect destination for a long walk, which from the coast takes you up towards the hilly area of the island.

If you love trekking, we really recommend that you take this short route and, once you arrive, enjoy the splendid panorama of the blue sea in front of you. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, because the path is certainly not in the best condition and to cover your head with a hat or a bandana if you decide to walk during the hottest hours of the day.
