We are talking about a tree with a capital T! The tree of Hippocrates in Kos Town, was the tree under whose foliage the master Hippocrates taught his students the art of medicine. It is a plane tree located just in front of the Lotzia Mosque, in Plane Tree Square.
It is a very important symbol of modern medicine even if it is very little taken into consideration. Nowadays it is supported by scaffolding to be able to keep it still standing and not let it give way because of its by now old age (about 500/600 years) and considered the descendant of the original Platano of centuries ago.
It is considered the oldest plane tree in the world with its extension of over 12 meters!
It is a tree that must be looked at with the eyes of those who recognize its value and its historical relevance: the eyes of those who today can see Hippocrates passionately teaching his students, noting how they were captivated by his words!
During the summer here in Kos Town several cultural events are organized in Plane Tree Square that create some inexplicable magic around this centuries-old tree!
