The Castle of the Knights

If you are fond of majestic fortresses then you will surely be enchanted by one of the main tourist attractions of the island of Kos, and precisely in its capital, in Kos Town.

It is what you will see first coming from the sea.

It was fortified by the Knights of the Order of Saint John in the 14th century to protect themselves from the Ottoman attack.

A hundred years later, for defensive reasons, it was decided to reinforce the walls by building a new fortress inside it.

The Castle of the Knights (Neratzia Castle), located east of the port of Mandraki, was a fortress useful to many peoples including Christians who were traveling to Jerusalem at the time, to guarantee them a place to stop and find refreshment.

Until a few years ago it could also be visited inside, but today it can only be visited from the outside, but we hope it will be reopened soon, in order to give everyone the chance to discover it in all its majesty.

Those who have had the good fortune to visit it in the last few years of opening, have savored since the entrance a jump in the past and could admire the panorama and the coasts of neighboring Turkey from a certainly privileged position.

And for all of you who for the first time have passed from the island of Kos, do not despair: even if it cannot be visited inside at the moment, from the outside you can absolutely admire its majesty and uniqueness.
