This is a very quaint village located in the center of the island of Kos, 15 km from Kos Town. If you are looking for a place to breathe deeply the Greek spirit, you have to add the village of Zia to your list of places not to be missed. Because this town located at a very high point on the island of Kos will have the power to fascinate you like few others!
Walking along its streets means walking in the middle of small shops and restaurants, all in typical Greek style. Here you will find objects of wood, metal, stone, ceramics, products for beauty and body care, the inevitable honey, local wines and liqueurs that you can bring as a gift to friends and relatives! Surely you will make them happy! For you instead, who had the fortune and the pleasure to visit this place, we suggest to try in one of the many little bars the Kanelada, the typical cinnamon syrup of Zia, very tasty!
Immediately after admiring the play of colors that only a sunset from the Village of Zia can give you, stop for dinner at one of the restaurants.
We recommend one of the most refined and with a breathtaking view: the Horomedon restaurant, a splendid tavern where to eat Greek menu and all its specialties (the typical dish is the Kleftiko al cartoccio and if you are vegetarian you can let loose because here the vegetables cook them wisely and in all the sauces), all of course ... with eyes set at sunset that from the typical orange color will turn into purple and then to the blue of the evening! We are sure you will be entranced!
The only "flaw" that we report is the large turnout of people. There is a lot of demand being a place situated perhaps in the best point of the village of Zia to see the sunset and it is of excellent quality. We recommend booking well in advance (for the period of August, even a few days before).
But the real tourist attraction of the village is precisely the famous sunset ... romantic, charming, enchanting, a sunset that you certainly won't forget! Made so beautiful thanks to the perfect location in which the Village of Zia arose and consequently thanks to the excellent view that extends in front of it.
The islands of the Dodecanese, the coasts of Turkey and the splendid and infinite calm sea; this is what will appear before your eyes.
And if you decide to visit the Village of Zia but have decided to go there in the morning? Well ... for sure you have to taste the famous freshly picked lemon juice ... It's something really delicious!
Despite these wonders, the Zia Village does not stop here with surprises. From here begins a path that leads to the summit of Mount Dikeos, 846 m, the highest on the island of Kos. If you like long walks here is a path for you that, in addition to the summit, will also take you to the great Greek flag, the church dedicated to Christ and the Orthodox Cross.
If you are a lover of typical and local festivals, book an evening at the Taverna Fantasia where the traditional Greek evening with dances, songs and typical cuisine takes place! A way to get even closer to the real and authentic culture ... And if you're lucky ... You might even be involved in a Greek wedding for at least seven hundred guests ... Yeah...
