The small capital of Koufonissi is called Chora and is located on the southern coast of the island. It is the only inhabited center of the small island and can be easily visited on foot or by bicycle given its small size.

Chora has about 350 inhabitants who live mainly fishing and tourism. And just as the island of Koufonissi has become a very popular destination only in the last ten years, in the summer months by tourists in search of authentic Greece and tranquility.

Here time seems to have stopped: just think that until the eighties on the island there was not even electricity and tourism was almost absent. If you want to discover the real Cyclades, with the typical white and blue houses, decorated with colored holes, the narrow alleys and the characteristic windmills you are in the right place. In Chora you will find the only port on the island, from which numerous gulets depart for the main beaches of the island and the enchanting island of Kato Koufonissi.

Beaches

Starting from the port of Chora, the first beach you will meet is that of Ammos, the main beach of Koufonissi, with a sea so crystalline that it will not seem real to be near the port.

Continuing along the coast you will find another beach that can be reached on foot, but also by boat. This beach is less known and therefore very quiet and ideal for those who want to relax and rediscover contact with nature.

Nightlife

Do not expect the nightlife of the most worldly and hectic Mykonos and Santorini, in Chora you can enjoy the sunset in one of the typical taverns located near the port and then continue the evening in one of the lively bars, where you can sip a refreshing cocktail by the sea. This picturesque village will give you incredibly romantic and carefree evenings.
