Agios Prokopios Beach

The enchanting Agios Prokopios beach is located on the west coast of the island of Naxos, immediately after the beach of Agios Georgios, about 5 kilometers from the city of Naxos and is one of the most beautiful beaches not only of Naxos, but of all the Greece.

It is a long coast of soft golden sand that extends for about 1.5 km, bathed by crystal clear and turquoise waters, which create infinite shades depending on the currents and the time of day. Immersing yourself in its waters, also awarded internationally, it will seem like swimming in a natural pool! All these features make Agios Prokopios look like a Caribbean beach.

The lively beach of Agios Prokopios is suitable for everyone: families with children, young people and anyone who appreciates its crystal clear waters, clear sand and the comforts of its services, which we will describe later. You will find fewer naturists on Agios Prokopios beach than a few years ago, gathered mainly at the northern end of the beach, which is the free area.

Agios Prokopios beach is a favorite among Naxos visitors also because it is protected from the wind, which often blows on the island and can annoy the wet.

The beach of Agios Prokopios is well organized with various beaches that offer umbrellas and sunbeds for hire, with prices ranging from 10 to 20 € per day. If you are sports you can rent various water sports equipment at the Bluefindivers Naxos Diving Center. The beach of Agios Prokopios also brings together lovers of summer sports, such as windsurfing, diving and beach volleyball.

If you have not yet decided where to stay on the island of Naxos, Agios Prokopios is definitely worth considering. It boasts a wide range of hotels and apartments for all tastes and budgets. In this area you will find luxury resorts with a wonderful sea view, good standard residences and apartments.

Behind the beach of Agios Prokopios you will also find many restaurants, taverns, snack bars and mini markets, for a tasty lunch, or a refreshing drink.

How to get

Agios Prokopios beach is not far from the city of Naxos, which is why many people choose to take a pleasant walk or get there by bike and scooter. There are several car parks near the beach, but if you arrive by car we recommend arriving early, to avoid rush hour traffic.

It is also easily accessible by public transport: buses run regularly every half hour, from morning until late at night.

Beyond the beach ..

Near the beach of Agios Prokopios, towards its northern end you will find the lake of Kokkini Limni, also called Red Lake for its particular reddish color. It is an old salt pan, where flocks of herons today stop to rest, before continuing their long migration to Africa.

If you are in the area during the first days of July you can participate in the religious festival held every year on July 8, in honor of Agios Prokopios. It will be a unique opportunity to learn more about local traditions and immerse yourself in the festive Greek atmosphere.
