Mikri Vigla Beach

Mikri Vigla is one of the most beautiful and photographed beaches on the island of Naxos. This enchanting beach is located on the west coast of the island, about 18 kilometers from the city of Naxos and considered unique for its particular shape. It is in fact composed of two different beaches, separated by a rocky promontory, which in the past was used by the local population as a sighting point.

The beautiful Mikri Vigla beach is very popular thanks to its two beaches which, having different characteristics, allow every type of visitor to bathe and relax in peace, but at the same time to practice water sports.

Behind the promontory, a few meters from the shore, you will find a lake that was once used to produce salt, one of the main goods exported by the ancient population of Naxos.

The two faces of Mikri Vigla beach

The beach south of Mikri Vigla looks like a very long stretch of clear sand that stretches for about 1 km, for this reason it is also called Sahara. The beach is heavenly, protected from the winds, with shallow waters and therefore perfect for relaxing in the sun and immersing yourself in its calm crystal clear waters. It is also organized with umbrellas and sunbeds and in our opinion, the ideal place for those looking for enchanting landscapes and a relaxing holiday without sacrificing comfort. Behind it you will find taverns and restaurants with excellent value for money, such as the Mikri Vigla Restaurant which offers exquisite fish dishes and not only directly on the beach, at moderate prices.

If you are fond of underwater sports, starting from Mikri Vigla beach you can swim north and snorkel on the rocks around the promontory. The underwater scenarios are breathtaking and rich in many species of fish. From red mullet, to small groupers, sole, octopus and even moray eels and turtles .. The marine fauna of Naxos is truly unique!

The northernmost beach of Mikri Vigla, also called Limanaki, is always of golden and soft sand, washed by a turquoise and crystalline sea, reminiscent of the Caribbean beaches, but beaten by Meltemi, the typical north wind.

The geographical characteristics of this extraordinary beach and the proximity to the island of Paros create perfect wind conditions for windsurfers and kitesurfers. In addition, Mikri Vigla is internationally renowned for windsurfing and has two equipped sports centers. The most renowned for windsurfing is the Club Mistral.

The perfect climatic conditions, combined with the particular conformation of Mikri Vigla beach allow a wide range of difficulties. The shelter provided by the island of Paros, which limits the formation of long and high waves, makes this part of the beach ideal for those who practice windsurfing and kitesurfing at any level.

On the northern part of Mikri Vigla you will find the bay with the pristine islet of Parthenos, which offers a wonderful panorama and where all windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts can perform in dizzying evolutions!
