Prassonissi beach

Are you lovers of suggestive and unique sceneries? Then you can't miss the Prassonissi beach. This suggestive paradise is situated in the southern tip of the island of Rhodes and here a very particular natural phenomenon occurs: the meeting between the Levant Sea and the Aegean Sea. A fabulous and unique show!

The beach of Prassonissi is about ninety kilometers from Rhodes Town (the capital), and on the way you will realize the landscape that changes slowly, becoming increasingly uninhabited and wild, until you reach your destination where the only buildings are a minimarket, some apartments and two large taverns, where you can have lunch and shelter from the wind, which is always present here for the joy of those who practice Kite Surfing. The Meltemi is at home here!

And now ... all with your nose up! Lots of sportsmen with their immense colored kites are ready to delight you with their acrobatics, while they hover in the air and then return to glide gently on the water for a new run and a new leap!

Small curiosity: in Greek Prassonissi means "green island" precisely because in winter the high tide completely submerges the strip of sand that leads to what will then become an island in effect.

The rising of the tide is however visible every day (in a lighter way) towards sunset, but don't worry ... the water rises very very slowly. Precisely because of this spectacle of nature, the car park is a few hundred meters from the beach of Prassonissi and a little further on there are sunbeds and umbrellas.

Although Prassonissi is the favorite destination of those who practice Kite Surfing, it is perfect for a short stop (for those who do not like the wind very much! .. otherwise make it become a longer stop): its shallow and sandy bottoms allow you to relax in a clear and turquoise sea. And then you can watch the shows of the skilled surfers whizzing on the waves of the sea, being comfortably crouched on the deckchair!

Another interesting attraction that we suggest you visit is the lighthouse of Prassonissi: built in 1890 by a French company. To reach it, you have to go along the strip of sand and a dirt path that after 2 km comes out in the highest area of the promontory, where the lighthouse is located. In summer, with the heat and the wind it can be a bit tiring, but when you arrive at your destination, the view is so impressive that you can say: it was worth it!
