Red Beach

Red Beach

Red Beach, also called Kokkini Paralia (literally: red beach), is located in the southwestern part of the island of Santorini, near the village of Akrotiri.

It can be reached by bus from Akrotiri and cars / scooters from Fira (the capital). Once you are near the Red Beach you will have to take a short walk, which will take you to your destination in about 8 minutes. The path is a bit steep, and for this we recommend comfortable shoes (if you don't already have them with you .. it is still feasible even with flip-flops, perhaps paying more attention). Certainly during the crossing enjoy the breathtaking view and admire the conformation of the rocks that gradually become increasingly red and more and more angular. It is the characteristic that makes this small bay of the island of Santorini unique and unforgettable!

After the slight effort, you will find yourself walking on a coarse, reddish sand of volcanic origin, while behind you a high cliff always of red rock, very suggestive, will embrace you and the beach. This cliff behind is precisely the "mother" of Red Beach, because it is because of its erosion that it has been created and continues to create itself, changing day by day.
Red Beach is definitely narrow, so it cannot accommodate a lot of people (usually, however, most visitors stay only a short time and then head for wider beaches). The turquoise sea contrasts with the vivid red of the beach and invites you to take an immediate dip.

Red Beach is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas and if you need water or food before going down the path, you can stop at one of the kiosks that offer water and fresh fruit, located right in front of it. Near this there is also the parking for those who decide to reach the beach with their own car!
And if you wanted to reach it by sea by ferry? No problem ! From Fira and Akrotiri every 30 minutes it arrives and leaves and the ticket can easily be done on board.

Red beach is sheltered from the wind, in fact on windy days it is the ideal destination. It is also an excellent destination for snorkeling, in fact this beach is perfect for practicing and admiring the many fish, thanks to the particularity of its seabed and the rocks that emerge from the water.
We strongly advise you not to visit Red Beach at peak times and to arrive early to enjoy the tranquility of this unique beach on the island of Santorini. Unfortunately, after a certain time, the beach begins to get more and more crowded and becomes crowded due to its fame. Alternatively you can visit the smaller bay in front of the main beach. It is often less visited and from here you can enjoy a great view of the beautiful red cliff behind the visitors.
This particular beach is definitely worth a visit! It is the most particular beach on the island of Santorini!
