Vlychada Beach

Description

Vlychada beach is located on the southern tip of the island of Santorini, 14 kilometers from Fira, near the beach of Agios Georgios. This beach is more than 800 meters long and has high white cliffs carved in particular shapes by the wind and the sea, gray sand mixed with pebbles and beautiful and clean but immediately deep waters. For this last feature we think it is not very suitable for families with children. Its lunar appearance meant that it was also given the name "Moon Beach".
It offers snorkelers multiple fish of various species and colors, all to be known. But despite these aspects, which we believe make it truly special, it is not very popular.

Parking is available in the center, between the port and the beach, so if you arrive by car, leaving it will not be a problem. When you get there you will see a snack bar that has, like other beaches, a free sun bed service with drink at the bar. With a very friendly and nice staff. But beware that the availability of rental umbrellas and sunbeds is low since there are few and are present only in the eastern part of Vlychada beach, or the area called "Theros".

On the bay you will also find a tavern built in local natural stone and wood, here we advise you to refresh yourself with a good Greek or fish dish, or you can still stop until evening and sip a drink while admiring the extraordinary sunset that colors the cliff of red and orange. Also treat yourself to a beautiful promenade, very romantic and charming!

On Vlychada beach you can relax thanks to the tranquility and the little overcrowding. But above all if you like completely isolated places just walk a little and you will find a stretch of deserted beach, without even umbrellas and bars. But let us say that this is the part of the beach most frequented by nudists, if you prefer not to be in situations that may be uncomfortable for you, we advise you to take a look before going there.

You can reach Vlychada beach only by car or taxi. If you decide to do it with your own means of transport there are several Fira signs that help you get to the bay. Basically it is the same road that leads to Akrotiri, but at a certain point you will see a sign on your right indicating the two beaches of Vlychada and Eros. Follow it and you will find yourself almost immediately on the lunar bay without problems.

A curiosity that we want to let you know is that if you are looking for something special and out of the usual sightseeing tours of the villages, you can stop at the Tomato Museum in Vlychada, housed inside the Santorini Arts Factory, here you can learn more about the tomato production, you didn't expect it, did you? We imagined it, this aspect of the island of Santorini is very little known.

This suggestive lunar beach is definitely worth a visit!
