Keri Caves

Keri Caves

The Keri Caves are one of the main natural attractions of the island of Zakynthos and are located along the south-western coast of the island, near the promontory of Cape Marathia. These amazing cavities carved into the rock extend for over 18 kilometers, alternating with small sandy and quiet bays.

Some of these magnificent caves can also be visited by staying on board the boat, because they are larger, others are decidedly smaller and can only be admired by swimming. It will be the ideal opportunity to practice snorkeling or diving. Both the depth of the waters surrounding the Caves of Keri, but above all the richness of marine fauna that populates the seabed makes this area of Zakynthos perfect for water sports.

Visiting these beautiful caves you will be amazed by the clarity of the sea that surrounds them and by the infinite reflections created by the sun inside them. You can relax on one of the small sandy coves that are located in the surroundings of Cape Marathia. Swimming in these clear waters with the high rocky ridges behind you will give you unforgettable sensations!

How to get to the Caves of Keri?

The Caves of Keri can only be reached by sea, by renting a boat.
You will not have to be a skilled navigator, in fact, approaching the caves is very simple, since the rocky coast overlooking them falls overhanging the sea and the seabed is consequently rather deep and easy to reach.

Alternatively, you can opt for one of the many day trips to Keri Caves that leave from the main ports of Zakynthos. Tours start at a cost of € 20 per person to see some caves, up to € 70 per person for daily semi-private sailing tours that will allow you to visit some of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

What to visit in the surroundings of the Caves of Keri?

In addition to visiting the caves from the small port of Keri, you can go on various boat excursions to discover the most beautiful places in Zakynthos, such as the island of Marathonisi, called the island of turtles because the wonderful Caretta Caretta turtles nest here.

If you have rented a boat, we suggest you to reach the Mizitres: two stacks located near the rocky coast that form a small beach of fine sand .. a true spectacle of nature! When you are close you will see that in one of the two stacks there is a rift in which you can swim and admire the numerous starfish. Also along the coast there are also two rock arches, under the larger of the two you can go by boat.

If you want to explore the hinterland at the crossroads preceding the village of Limni Keri, turn right and follow the road uphill: in a few minutes you will reach the picturesque village of Keri. It is a small village with typical stone houses and narrow streets that branch off from the central square. Here it seems that time has stopped ..

If you are looking for romance, do not miss the small lighthouse located at the top of the cliffs of Keri, overlooking the sea. Next to the parking lot of the lighthouse you will find a path that leads to a natural terrace, from here you will have a spectacular view of the whole bay: the view ranges from the sea to the stacks, to the deserted beaches .. This is the place preferred by visitors to admire the sunset.

The enchanting Keri Caves with their suggestive panoramas and the whole surrounding area are certainly worth a visit!
