Gerakas Beach

Gerakas beach is located in the southernmost point of the island of Zakynthos, is 18 kilometers south of Zakynthos city and is one of the most beautiful and exciting beaches on the whole island!
It has a long stretch of sand and a promontory entirely composed of clay which marks the end and which plunges into splendid turquoise and blue waters.
Do you think that long ago it was possible to make mud by detaching the clay from this large promontory: today it has been prohibited due to the problems that have arisen to continue to detach clay for many years.

Is Gerakas beach equipped?

Gerakas beach is partly equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, but it is also perfect for those looking for a pristine beach, thanks to a completely free part.

If you want to nibble on a snack while sipping a refreshing drink or enjoy a nice plate of fresh fish or Greek cuisine, you can head to the bars and taverns located near the beach.

Gerakas beach is a very delicate place and is in fact protected by the Marine National Park, which prohibits entry from half an hour before sunset to half an hour after sunrise. The reason for all this attention towards the beach is due to a rare event that deserves and must be protected.
From May to October there is a natural phenomenon of the animal world that many have long wanted to see: the hatching of Caretta Caretta turtle eggs! A beautiful show that happens in the early hours of the morning, so to be able to assist you we recommend waking up very early (at dawn). Once out of their small shell, turtle cubs immediately head towards the sea ... one of the sweetest and most exciting visions that nature can give us!

How do you reach Gerakas beach?

The beach is easily accessible by car.
From Zakynthos City they are about 16 km and need about half an hour by car, from Laganas they are 20 km and they take about 40 minutes.
The road to be followed is the main one, therefore it is well paved and, moreover, it is also provided with the necessary information to get to Gerakas. Once you arrive you can freely leave your car in the large free parking.
