The town of Laganas is located on the southern coast of the island of Zakynthos, about ten kilometers from Zakynthos City (the capital).
Its surroundings offer verdant hills and a long sandy coast, overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea.

Laganas beach

Laganas boasts an immense sandy beach bathed by a beautiful warm and transparent sea, with a soft sandy bottom that remains low even after several meters from the shore. It is equipped for every need, it is in fact possible to rent deck chairs and umbrellas, play beach volleyball, practice water sports and participate in boat excursions on the islet of Marathonissi and the caves of Keri.

In front of the beach you will find the small islet of Agios Sostis, equipped with a small port for fishing boats and private boats, which can be reached by a characteristic wooden pier. Behind the Laganas beach you will find an infinite number of restaurants, taverns and snack bars open until late in the evening and a large parking lot.

The bay of Laganas and the quieter beach of Kalamaki, which is its continuation, are part of the Zakynthos Marine Park and right here the Caretta Caretta turtles lay their eggs. If you are lucky you may have the opportunity to admire these wonderful sea creatures up close.

What to do in Laganas

Also on Laganas beach you will find the monument in honor of André Vésale an important Flemish anatomist and doctor, who died in Zakynthos in the 16th century.

The History War Museum is a modern three-dimensional museum founded in 2018, located at the Galaxy Beach Hotel, a short distance from Laganas beach. It is a museum where the visitor has the opportunity to explore modern history, through authentic representations of war scenes, specifically WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

All installations are enriched with fully functional vehicles, which are equipped with heavy artillery, as well as rare devices and memorabilia from each period of war, which create accurate documentation and represent real events, which determined Greek and world history.

The History War Museum in Laganas is a dynamic place of active learning, which wishes to cultivate awareness in visitors, especially the youngest ones, who are entrusted with the task of preserving peace. By visiting this interesting museum you will be able to commemorate the fighters and learn from the past, to improve the future.

Excursions near Laganas

There are many places of interest that are located near Laganas and the excursions you can do starting from this multifaceted tourist-friendly town. Just two kilometers north of Laganas you will find the town of Sarakina, where you can admire the beautiful Lountzis Mansion, a building of particular historical and architectural interest.

From Laganas you can embark for a beautiful excursion on the enchanting Marathonissi island, with its splendid white beaches, then you can visit the suggestive Keri Caves and you can even take a hot air balloon ride to admire the splendid Laganas bay from above.

How to get to Laganas

Laganas is connected to Zakynthos Town and nearby Kalamaki via a bus service which runs several times daily. But we still advise you to rent a car, or a scooter to be able to move in total freedom to discover the beautiful island of Zakynthos.
