Navagio Beach (shipwreck)

Description

The Navagio beach is considered one of the most beautiful in the world, often photographed and present in Greece. Its name means shipwreck and it is so named because of the shipwreck of a ship that remained stranded on the beach in the 80s.

The curious thing is that before the shipwreck it was a cove without a beach known as Agios Georgiou Sta Gremna in memory of the small monastery that overlooks the bay.

The high white cliffs blind the eyes of the beholder. Together with the beach: sand, pebbles and stones are all strictly white. Extraordinary is the contrast with the sea painted in pale blue, turquoise with patches of deeper blue located more offshore. Unfortunately, all this wonder is a source of business and so Navagio is always crowded.

To enjoy it you need to take one of the taxi boats that leaves from Porto Vromi early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The wreck of the ship is now a tangle of rusty scrap metal covered with writings, dedications and graffiti. For this we must pay close attention. Navagio beach offers its maximum splendor from above. Besides being the most beautiful view of Zakynthos, it is one of the most famous postcards of Greece.

To get above the cliffs you can go through Anafonitria or Volimes and follow the signs for Moni Agios Georgiou Sta Gremna and, after about 2 km, you reach the lookout point. You can safely lean against the metal platform from which you can admire an incredible show and take memorable photographs.

You can't say you came to Zakynthos without having seen Navagio from above and without getting wet in its beautiful waters !!
