Xigia Beach

Xigia Beach

Description

Xigia beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of Zakynthos, an enchanting place that sees a beach of sand and pebbles lapped by a sea of fantastic colors, among which stands an anomalous light blue pastel.

This color is due to the presence of sulfur in the waters coming from some nearby underground caves, one of which opens at about twenty meters from the beach, in the vertical cliff that borders it. Approaching the entrance to the cave becomes difficult because the water is cold and the strong presence of sulfur makes it impossible to see underwater.

Sometimes sulfur can give rise to its typical unpleasant odor, but you get used to it immediately, even if it remains on the skin after taking a bath. It would be good not to remove it immediately, since these sulphurous waters have therapeutic properties against rheumatism, arthritis, bone, tendon and muscle pain, as well as skin diseases.

Before the descent to the beach there is the homonymous tavern: in addition to serving excellent Greek cuisine, it grants a splendid view of the coast and the sea as far as the island of Kefalonia and the Greek coast.
