TOP 5: GREATER TOURIST ISLANDS

The islands of the Greek continent exceed 6,000 units; including the islets, the smaller islets and the rocks. Do you think that only 227 of these are inhabited and known, some more or less.

Today we are going to get to know 5 of these islands: the most touristic ones, consequently the most famous and most likely also the most beautiful, or at least reflecting the common canons of aesthetics. Over the years these islands have attracted thousands and thousands of visitors to the Greek continent, making it one of the favorite destinations for tourists from all over the world. Everyone knows them and even those who do not want to go there because "too touristy" eventually fall into the trap, failing to resist the beauties kept in these jewels of Greece.

But now let's see step by step the most tourist Greek islands ever:

  • Santorini (Cyclades, Aegean Sea)

It was not possible to start a list of the most touristic Greek islands without putting the splendid, well known and much loved Santorini at its head.

We can say that this small island is the symbol of Greece, even if in practice it is not .. but it has become it; with the passing of the years and the development of tourism in Santorini, visits have started to grow visibly. If you name Greece to anyone who jumps into the head of the image of Santorini, over the years Santorini has entered the hearts and minds of everyone. It should be stressed that much of the fame of this island is due to media marketing; in practice the market of different sectors, very often, used the image of Santorini to entice people to buy or return to their business, spreading the figure of the island on any type of product, social or simply showing it on the walls of the restaurant . This is clearly a brilliant marketing strategy but in our opinion, lovers of the Hellenic lands, this use of Santorini has led it to become a somewhat commercial island. The most sad thing is that for this reason many people are often less motivated to visit Santorini. Here's getting to the point: Santorini is not a selling goddess, it is an island that gives emotions, views and sensations that you could seriously not find anywhere else. Santorini is pure magic and it's not just "a lot of tourism and commerce".

Santorini is so beautiful that it unites everyone, it also boasts uncrowded beaches such as Koulombos Beach and Bauxedes Beach, offers traditional villages not necessarily composed of suites and luxury hotels, such as Emborios and Pyrgos, gives the most famous vineyards of the Cyclades, monasteries and incredible archaeological sites such as; the monastery of Profitis Ilias and the Akrotiri site. Then clearly the beloved and envied by all Caldera is added. What a magnificent view, especially at sunset! The set of: view on the Caldera + sunset, is the perfect combo to give birth to new loves and to grow those who already exist.

Also, getting to Santorini is really a walk, so we advise you to consider it as the next destination for your holiday, unless you have already done so.

  • Mykonos (Cyclades, Aegean Sea)

Here we are in another jewel of the Cyclades, if not of the entire Greek continent. Mykonos is "mainstream" like poor Santorini. Everyone goes there, splits the liver and spends a fortune, right? Mistaken!

Mykonos has different nuances and over the years we should have understood it. First it was a hippie paradise, then nonconformists and today it is the favorite destination of many influencers and celebrities of all kinds. Surely Mykonos is not a low cost destination, but the offers can be easily found. And this is where "not for me" comes into play, this is also a myth we want to dispel. True, this island is a paradise for young people and luxury, but who wouldn't want to try being a "rich boy" for a few days? I believe nobody. We would all like to return young, at least for one night, if possible even 6/7 nights. So why not do it? We have an island that offers us this more unique than rare possibility, let's take advantage of it!

Let's wander in the alleys of Mykonos Town to meet the traditional cafes and taverns, to know the historical places that tell the antiquity of Mykonos, thus stripping it of luxury and youth, making us understand how "young and inexperienced" it was once and how much it is "rich and experienced" today. Yet it is the island of luxury and youth eh! This teaches us that we too can become young again and it is more than legitimate to do so. Do it by going to Super Paradise Beach or the adjacent Paradise Beach, knowing beach bars like the Tropicana, where by entering for free you can observe today's kids, admire the changes and maybe, why not ?, try to imitate them, dancing on the songs of the euphoric dj Sasa and entering completely in that "I boy" still hidden in the depths of your soul.

Or, if Sasa's frenzy is too much for you, you can reach Psarou Beach. Here meet the Nammos beach bar, another place dedicated to fun but perfect for those looking for something slightly more peaceful.

When you reach these beaches you will realize that it is not only youth and luxury that animate Mykonos, these are aspects that we humans have created and it is our own "obstacles" that often prevent us from doing what we want most. The best
nature made it Mykonos; the light, the splendid sea everywhere, the incredible landscapes and the romantic sunsets ..

  • Kos (Dodecanese, Aegean Sea)

Welcome to Kos, the most mature island of all! Kos has known tourism for decades now, it can also be understood from the experience of its inhabitants, who at school together with the Greek alphabet learn the Latin alphabet. In Kos many can speak Italian, English, German and Greek together. The cultural level is wide, especially in those who work for the tourism sector.

Kos is perfect for everyone and stands out from other Greek islands. Its Mediterranean style and the many fascist period buildings underline the subtle link that Kos has with Italian culture. An Italian in Kos feels at home, not for nothing many inhabitants of Kos are Italians who have moved here for years.

Kos also has a Turkish character that should not be underestimated! The routes that connect it daily to Bodrum speak clearly, as do the numerous Byzantine buildings, some modern and others ancient. In Kos you find sand on sand on sand .. that's if you don't like pebbly coasts Kos is your ideal destination! The splendid sea enchants anyone who looks at it; in Magic Beach you can feel the magic, in Cavo Paradiso you will test your adventurous spirit, in Kos Town and in Kardamena you will find everything, and I emphasize everything, what you need. In the capital you will admire historical places envied by many and in Kardamena, the second most thriving tourist resort in Kos, you will find taverns and cafes with unique and unforgettable sea views! In the Asclepeion, with an excellent tour guide, you will get to know Hippocrates and his countless good works. At Therma Beach you will experience a regenerating and nutrient-rich bath.

Also in Kos you can try many water sports, such as kitesurfing, windsurfing. But also land sports, such as horse riding, archery and much more. In addition to being able to reach the coasts of Turkey, you can get to know the volcanic island of Nisyros, the Symi and Tilos islands, and finally the home of the climbing wall and immortal sponges, Kalymnos.
Fall in love with Kos and its innumerable opportunities? Child's play.

  • Rhodes (Dodecanese, Aegean Sea)

The magical Rhodes. Here, on the island suitable for everyone and where everything happens, getting lost with your gaze in its splendid horizons is very simple. Rhodes is a paradise for all types of people, from the father of the family to the boy who came with friends for a high school trip. It is amazing how Rhodes manages to split these two realities incredibly well. No father of the family complains about the chaos and no young man looking for fun complains because he cannot find it. Everyone leaves satisfied Rhodes, aware of having spent the days on an unparalleled island.

Rhodes and Kos, in addition to being close, are very similar, from many points of view. Rhodes is as if it were the older sister of Kos, in terms of size.

Families in Rhodes can book a boat for Lindos and go to discover the Acropolis of Lindos, and then dive into the wonderful waters of Lindos Beach. They will be able to admire the Medieval City of Rhodes, Unesco heritage since 1988. With its Via dei Cavalieri and the Palazzo del Gran Maestro it is able to enchant anyone who looks at it.

On the other hand, young people will be able to go wild under the sun on the beaches of Elli Beach and Faliraki Beach. In the village of Faliraki, they will find innumerable activities, clubs, night pubs capable of giving them the exact dose of entertainment they need. As well as in Rhodes Town, where you can still find many other night and day clubs.

How many things can happen in Rhodes, many have found the better half, others have seen us a safe place to build a family, others still the perfect job opportunity.
In Rhodes there are infinite possibilities, from many points of view, make the most of this visit!

  • Crete (Aegean and Libyan Sea)

Here we are on the largest and most populated island of the Greek continent. So large that there was absolutely no need for the administration to include it in any archipelago. Yes, Crete is not part of any Greek archipelago, it is an island in itself. Crete is another of those islands that everyone knows, we get to know it already from the elementary. This is because the island encompasses so much of that history that even a historian scholar is nauseated. To talk about the countless events, battles and myths that took place on this huge island, hundreds of pages should be occupied. How many our beloved Crete has seen, surely it is the wisest of all the islands of the Greek continent.

Unfortunately, it must be said that to date Crete still sees many, between feuds between mafia families and criminal clans, it can be said that all that glitters is not gold. Don't worry, Crete, as well as our beloved Italy, knows how to limit its problems very well. Those who have already been there will be able to confirm this, nobody has ever felt the presence of these "social problems". Furthermore, the Cretan crime rate remains very low, so put simply, don't be afraid.

Returning to Cretan tourism, Crete is capable of well preserving even its most precious and wild places, it does so in its precious south, made up of wild gorges and villages unreachable by means of transport. If you want to know villages full of mysteries like Loutro and Agia Roumeli then you will have to arm yourself with courage and have a nice walk, in the best case you will have to use a boat, thus having to overcome only seasickness.

But the most known and crowded places are often the most beautiful, they make us understand beaches like Balos, Vai or Falassarna. The pink beach of Elafonissi is a place with singular peculiarities that cannot be found in other tourist destinations. Not to mention the splendid islet of Chrissi, a small island where tropical beauties are enclosed that not even in the Caribbean!

In short, who more or less, these Greek islands hold magnificent places and offer comfortable services in every corner exposed to the public. If you are reading these lines, surely you are looking for magical but well-equipped places. The 5 Greek islands listed above, not only will give you the perfect holiday, but will also make you relentlessly want to visit them again, and trust us if we tell you that you will never have enough!
