Plathiena beach is located on the north coast of the island of Milos and is about 2 kilometers from Plaka (the capital) . This wonderful beach composed of sand, shallow crystalline sea and a rich vegetation that surrounds it can be seen from the huge church located in the center of the capital. The beach of Plathiena is not very equipped, it offers only a small bar where you can go to sip a drink and nibble on a snack and some sun-beds and umbrellas to rent. Keep in mind that availability for the latter is very small compared to other beaches on the island of Milos, so we suggest you arrive early.Otherwise you will need to bring a beach towel and umbrellas to be able to enjoy a rest in contact with nature, but still protecting yourself from the sun.
Reaching Plathiena beach is very simple. It is sufficient to travel by car or scooter to a well-paved and not too demanding road up to Plaka, after which you will have to follow a less paved road than the previous one but still in good condition, which will make you come out right in the parking lot of the beach, quite wide and free.Alternatively you can reach Plathiena by boat, a different point of view that makes the scenery even more magical!
If you feel like taking a break from a break, you might decide to visit the small fishing ports near Plathiena, or Fourkovouni and Areti. Take advantage also to have lunch in one of the taverns: the excellent fresh fish will make you immediately want to come back!
When you are quiet and lying on the sand or on your bed you can admire the view in front of your eyes. And as you watch it you will notice a rock in the sea that is almost opposite the beach. Seen from your point of view, this rock will probably seem like a simple rock in the sea, but if you decide to reach the beach of Plathiena by boat you will see the magic of this particular rock, which seen from other points of view reminds both a rabbit and a bear. It's amazing how nature can do similar works of art!
