Faliraki

Faliraki is an important tourist center about 15 kilometers south of Rhodes Town (the capital), on the east coast of the island and is the second most important center of the island of Rhodes.

Faliraki has changed a lot in the last few years, going from being a destination chosen mainly by the very young for holidays full of unbridled fun (until about 9 years ago), to be today a destination suitable for everyone: from the family with children, couples and groups of friends.

What led to this important change? Certainly over the years tourism on the island of Rhodes has changed and the hotels themselves have decided to renovate themselves by raising the level of accommodation facilities and replacing the large number of night / evening venues with shopping streets and restaurants and cafés, to make more a pleasant stroll along the seafront. For those looking for fun there is the famous bar street where everything takes the color and flavor of celebration and evenings where you can spend all night!

Arriving from Rhodes City the first impact is given by large resorts and hotel chains that overlook the large Faliraki beach. Continuing we arrive at what is the real center of Faliraki where the structures become smaller and surrounded by very pleasant shops to visit.

Strolling along the Faliraki promenade will certainly give you an appetite and then get ready to enjoy a wide range of dishes in one of the many restaurants and bistros overlooking the sea: you can choose between traditional Greek cuisine, international, Italian, Mexican, Japanese .. Very recommended by vacanzegreche is the Manolis Taverna, slightly set back from the center, but easily reachable with a walk: here any dish is expertly cooked and the quality is very high..the bill? absolutely in line with the prices of the island of Rhodes ... And if you are not in the mood to put your legs under the table, go to street food with pita gyros, slices of pizza and sandwiches at will, while walking in search of the beach what more do you prefer!
As for the souvenirs and not only, the shops in Faliraki remain open until late: here you can find everything and more! Typical Greek products, such as ouzo, honey or ceramics painted in color, oil, olives and sweets at will ... Well you will really be spoiled for choice: let shopping begin!

But now let's go back in time. Faliraki since the early 1900s has been a simple village of fishermen, shepherds and peasants (a bit like all the Greek islands, which today instead live almost exclusively of tourism). From the 1970s the scene began to change, the traditional taverns and houses of the village in the eastern part of the island of Rhodes were replaced by large hotel complexes. Little by little, Faliraki became a place of entertainment for tourists from all over Europe and became increasingly accessible, bringing young people in search of fresh cocktails and evenings at full volume. Since 2010 something has changed again and brought Faliraki back and in general the whole island of Rhodes to be a less "cheap" and more peaceful destination.

Faliraki is a great starting point to visit the whole island of Rhodes. It is located 15 minutes from Rhodes Town, which for sure you can't miss (whether it's day or night, it's always fabulous!). Nearby is the Bay of Anthony Queen (beautiful!), The thermal baths of Kalithea and then going down you will have a succession of beaches one more beautiful than the other, until you reach the beaches of Agathi, Lindos and Prassonissi .. on the extreme tip of the island of Rhodes and where the two seas meet ... in a very very particular way!

For those who do not want to do just a beach holiday, you can go to the old monastery of the prophet Amos on a hill just outside Faliraki and the Rodini Park, a deer reserve that represents one of the symbols of the island of Rhodes. It is a green oasis crossed by canals and streams with a small zoological garden in the center. Here, in 330 BC, the famous School of Rhetoric was built, also frequented by Giulio Cesare and Cassio, of which today very few traces remain.

Regarding its splendid bay, Faliraki has one of the largest beaches on the island of Rhodes with its 7 km long and is among the best organized: well-ordered sunbeds and umbrellas, water sports at will (from pedalos to paragliding), beach bars, taverns, restaurants, all added to a beach of fine golden sand and the gently sloping sea: all this makes it one of the favorite destinations for families and not only. Some stretches of beach are reserved for the guests of the hotels behind them and some stretches also have free beaches: in short, there is really space for everyone and for all tastes!

And if you travel with your little ones, expect them to ask you to be taken to the Faliraki Water Park, open from 9.30am to 6.00pm: the ticket price for adults is € 24, while for children aged 3 to 12 years is € 16 (under 3 years is free). For those who want it there are also tickets for multi-day tickets, with a slight discount. The Faliraki water park really has everything you could wish for: swimming pools, slides, pipes, etc., so that the little ones can be unleashed and more ...

Now that you have some more info on Faliraki, we are sure to have whetted your curiosity, which will lead you to add it to the destinations not to be missed during your vacation on the island of Rhodes!
